Penney is a small village in Greenlake Barony. Population is 150; mostly human and half-elf, a few dwarves. This village is located on a hill above Lake Iylyria, and only a few of the folk are fishermen. 

Notable Places:

• The Broken Hammer: A shabby tavern, said to be built atop a cave-cellar. This is the only place to stay or eat in the village and the only rentable sleeping space is on the floor.
• Temple of All-Gods: this temple is large in comparison to the rest of the village because it is actually an old ruined temple from 2nd Empire times.  
• Altew's Pottery: A cluttered potter's workshop, which uses a hot springs to generate heat for their kiln. Also serves as the village's public bath-house.

A few NPCs:

• Rix: Female Human Aristocrat. Rix has a round face, with long gray hair and gray eyes. She wears fine raiment and carries a fine stiletto. She's Baron Dmitri's representative in the village, who works under Master John, the Reeve. 
• Thollor: Male Dwarf Illusionist. Thollor has a long face, with red hair and bright hazel eyes. He wears simple clothing and wields a quarterstaff. Thollor has an arcane familiar, a lizard named Sal. He arrived in Laketower a few years ago, and studied for a year under Dmitri, but was never officially his apprentice.
• Narder: Male Human Soldier. Narder is haughty in bearing, with straight golden hair and gray eyes. He wears scale mail and wields a flail and dagger. Narder is the village's guard "captain"; he has six partly-trained men-at-arms under his authority. He reports to Sir Torrence. 
• Michael Bigge: the village smith, a fairly skilled ironworker; he can make bladed weapons, as well as household goods and horseshoes. He's a short man, but very broad-shouldered and strong. He has dark brown hair, brown skin and wears a dirty leather work apron. 

Trouble in Penney: 

Penney has been experiencing raids by a group of orcs that live somewhere south of the village; the raids have happened off-and-on over the last 30 years, but only this past year, three farms on the fringes of teh village have been raided. The farmers have seen animals stolen, crops destroyed, and a few outbuildings burned; the last raid was the worst - a boy aged about 12 apparently surprised the raiders and was injured by them, and died before he could be healed. Now the villagers are petitioning Dmitri to send them aid and stop the raiders. 

Nearby folks:

Rowena - a druid/priestess of Safreth who lives in the forest outside Penney. Known for being a bit too interested in protecting the forest and preventing the huntsmen/loggers from conducting their business.

Osbeorn - a ranger who lives in Penney. He's usually out in the forest, but can be found at home every week or so. He and Rowena are allies in general, but he also has a reputation for being "too peaceloving" towards the raiders.

Ewald - leader of the local logger's camp; he and his 8 men cut logs in and around Penney, and then transship them to Hewe, where they are sold on into Greenvale. He hates orcs with a passion, and is definitely in favor of wiping out the raiders.
