Velsburg (population 50)

Velsburg consists of not much more than a tiny clearing surrounded by houses in the forest. A single round stone "tower" 30' tall provides the village's only defense, and otherwise there are 11 or so houses with associated barns or outbuildings in the village. It is unwalled, and a stream cuts through the center of the village. The bridge and the stone tower are ancient construction, as are the foundations of several houses, but nothing else remains. There is a town hall, also used as the village school, a small watermill on the stream, and two buildings over is the blacksmithy. There are no shops; every villager has one or more crafts, and they all farm small plots, growing most everything they eat. Pigs, which feed on acorns in the forest, are common farm animals.  The village's only cash income comes from hunting for deerhide and pelts in the woods. They also shelter the occasional logging crew for a few days at a time, which brings in some ready money. Otherwise, they seem entirely self-sufficient.

Almost everyone in Velsburg is human or half-elf, but there is one hobbyt couple with several children. Most everyone seems to be related to everyone else, and if asked, they will tell a story of being one large extended family which decided to leave Greenvale 30 years ago, when they heard Greenlake was seeking new residents. They found the ruins here and happily claimed them as their own. They see the soldiers from Lifford tower once in a while, but otherwise keep to themselves. Yorik makes a yearly trip to Laketower to pay their taxes.

Important People in Velsburg:

Yorik: the "mayor" of Velsburg, he's simply the person who seems most able and willing to chat with outsiders. Affable and competent, he's also the village priest (of Safreth). L2 Cleric

Metar: the miller, a cousin of Yorik's. He's nosy but standoffish, wanting to know whatever is going on but refusing to speak to outsiders, muttering things under his breath about outsiders and privacy. He will lurk near anything going on. Expert L4

Sarasah: the blacksmith, another cousin of Yorik's. She's big, strong and seems slow-witted, but that may be an act. She, too, seems not to want outsiders near, but her interest in anything beyond her forge is minimal. Commoner L5

Other villagers are: animal husbandrymen, carpenters, furriers, pigkeepers, a cartmaker, a launderer, cowherders, a falconer, bakers, leatherworkers, weavers and brewers.
